Direct Marketing Association

Tired of junk mail and telemarketers?

Most people enjoy receiving information in the mail about products that interest

them or products and services they may need or want.  Some consumers, however,

would like to receive less advertising mail at home.  Mail Preference Service (MPS)

is designed to assist those consumers in decreasing the amount of national profit

or commercial mail they receive at home.

To register with MPS: (see below for form)

Send your name(s) and home address and signature to:

                              Mail Preference Service

                              Direct Marketing Association

                              PO Box 9008

                              Farmingdale, NY 11735-9008

Be sure to include as many versions of you name as it appears on mailings that you

receive.  You must register your name/address with MPS directly; second party requests

can not be processed.  Your name will remain on file for five years.  This service does not

apply to advertising sent to your business address.

When you register with MPS, you name is placed on a "delete" file which is made available

to companies four times a year - January, April, July, and October.  Registrants typically

notice a decrease in the amount of advertising mail approximately three months after their

names are entered into the file.

You will continue to receive mail from companies with which you do business and from

charitable or commercial organizations which do not choose to use MPS.  In addition, you

may continue to receive mail from many local merchants, professionals and alumni

associations, political candidates and mail addressed to "occupant" or "resident".

Not all companies use MPS to purge their mailing lists, therefore, you may continue to receive

some companies' promotions.  In this instance, contact the company directly and ask to be

placed on the company's do-not-mail file.
